Welcome to Art at AMY Northwest 2013-2014!

Welcome to the Arts at AMY Northwest! The school year is already off to a creative start. We are already well into the first projects of the school year! I went over grading, rules, and procedures on the first day of art class, but for those of you who are new, I am putting them on my blog so that you have it as a reminder. I'm also putting them up here for new parents who are curious about whats going on in the art room.
One of the questions I get asked most from parents and students is "How do you grade art?" My rubric is very simple. Your grade is based on the following rubric, which is posted in the very front of the room on a large poster:

Under the rubric is a poster that you can check as you work to see if you are earning your best grade. Projects that are incomplete will go down a grade. For example, if you earn a C-, your grade will drop to a D+. It is not possible to earn higher than a C on an imcomplete project. Remember that if you don't finish a project in time, you can always take it home to finish. If its a project with complicated and messy materials such as paints, pastels or collage, it is your responsibility to see Ms. Lim about coming in during lunch, before, or after school to complete your project. Names of students with incomplete projects will be listed on the board next to Ms. Lim's desk so that you can check if you are missing any work:

The rules of the art room are clearly placed in the front of the room above the board. They are clear and simple. Remember that the negative and positive points that you earn in art class apply toward your incentives:

Art Museum Club is starting next week! If you have any questions, please let Ms. Lim know at LLim@philasd.org.
